The Nebelung cat is a rather rare breed of the domestic feline. It was named after the town called Nebelung, which is located in Lower Austria. This long-haired feline was bred by German cats in the 19th century and has been bred to the modern-day Nebelung. The markings of the breed are silver crescent-shaped marking on the chest which is called the ‘Pectoral Crest’. The word ‘Nebelung’ means ‘mountain cat’ in German.
This silver coated short-haired cat is known to be one of the most amiable of cats. If you are a pet owner, you will understand the adage ‘You get what you pay for’. Well, this saying may not apply to your cat since the Nebelung may prove to be too expensive for your pocket. However, there are certainly attractive features of this breed that make it an excellent choice for apartment living or even for home.
The Nebelung cat is one of those cats who love to interact and meet new people. They will happily leap into your arms and spend hours playing with you and your other pets. They have a playful personality, but can also be very affectionate and loving. In apartment living, the Nebelung will meow and scratch in an almost hypnotic manner. They are a bit quieter than other cats but still talk plenty.
Rebels are somewhat prone to health conditions like ear infections, urinary tract infections, and obesity. They may sometimes gulp air and create a muddy, musty odor with their breathing. Cats that are over a year old and/or over one hundred pounds are more prone to these problems. Caring for an older cat with this problem can be quite difficult because these cats tend to have more health issues than younger cats. Older cats require special considerations for nutrition and care.
If you think your pet may have this disease, please contact your local veterinarian. They will do a simple exam and look at your pet’s symptoms. Your veterinarian will probably recommend that you obtain your pet an annual examination by an independent veterinarian. This is especially important if your pet has been exposed to a large number of toxins or live in an area where there are a lot of pesticides and insecticides around. These toxins can be particularly harmful to older animals. An annual examination is a good idea for your pet, just to make sure he or she is healthy.
Nebelung Cats are prone to developing kidney stones. If this does occur, medical treatment is required. In most cases, it is curable with surgery, but there is an increased chance if the kidneys are not removed. As a precaution, you should have your pets spayed or neutered. While this does not necessarily mean two cats will not breed, it does mean one will. As well, it may be necessary for you to undergo treatment for a disease that can cause some of the formations of stones.
The Nebelung breed cat can be very friendly and warm toward strangers, however, they can also be reserved and aloof. They are very affectionate toward children and show them great attention, but they can become cold toward other animals. This can be because of the nature of their breed. However, with the right training and attention from a responsible owner, the Nebelungen can be a great companion.
